Description

There is a  supernova in M101 (Pinwheel Galaxy). On  May 19th an amateur astronomer (Koichi Itagaki) discovered SN 2023ixf. It is the closest supernova since SN2014J in 2014.

SN2023ixf is a type II supernova which is an explosion that occurs when a massive stars runs out of fuel and collapses. Type II suprenovae leave a neutron star or a black hole in their wake.
